Number of gifts sent resets

I presume by the fact when you send a gift to a friend it gives you an increasing number out of 50 that you have a target to reach 50 gifts sent to that friend. My problem is the number keeps resetting. The highest I have got to is 19. It doesn't seem to matter whether I have gifted every day or not

You can send 50 gifts daily to different friends. It us possible to send up to 10 collection items to 1 person.
